Improving CCTV Coverage for a Retail Store in Johor
The client approached Neera Technologies because their existing CCTV setup no longer provided the coverage they needed. Several areas inside and around the store were difficult to monitor, and the client wanted a more reliable setup for daily security monitoring.

CCTV Upgrade & Installation
Project Scope
Site assessment, CCTV coverage planning, camera replacement, additional camera installation, configuration and testing.
WHAT WAS HAPPENING?
The client already had a CCTV system installed, but the existing setup was no longer suitable for the way the store was operating.
Some areas had limited visibility, while certain camera angles were no longer useful due to changes in the store layout. The client also wanted better monitoring around key areas such as the entrance, cashier area and selected sections of the premises.
Instead of replacing everything without a proper plan, the client wanted a solution that could improve coverage while making use of the existing setup where possible.
THE CHALLENGES THEY WERE FACING
01 — Limited Camera Coverage
Some parts of the store were not properly covered by the existing CCTV system.
02 — Poor Camera Positioning
A few cameras were installed at angles that no longer matched the current store layout.
03 — Important Areas Needed Better Visibility
Key areas such as the entrance, cashier area and selected customer zones required clearer monitoring.
04 — Existing Infrastructure Had To Be Considered
The upgrade needed to work around the existing cabling and CCTV equipment where possible.
WHAT DID THE CLIENT ACTUALLY NEED?
The client did not simply need more cameras.
They needed a more practical CCTV setup that matched how the store was actually being used.
Their main requirements were:
- Improve visibility across important areas
- Reduce blind spots
- Improve camera positioning
- Maintain coverage around the entrance and cashier area
- Reuse suitable existing infrastructure where possible
- Ensure the system was easy to monitor
- Keep installation disruption to a minimum
HOW WE APPROACHED THE PROJECT
Before recommending any equipment, Neera Technologies carried out a site assessment to understand the current CCTV setup and how the store operated on a daily basis.
We reviewed the existing camera locations, identified areas with limited coverage and looked at which parts of the current system could still be used effectively.
This helped us avoid unnecessary replacement and allowed us to focus the upgrade on areas that actually needed improvement.
The goal was not to install the highest number of cameras.
The goal was to create a more useful CCTV setup for the client.
THE SOLUTION WE RECOMMENDED
Based on the site assessment, we recommended a CCTV upgrade focused on improving coverage and camera placement.
Repositioning Existing Cameras
Where suitable, existing cameras were repositioned to provide better visibility based on the current store layout.
Additional Cameras for Blind Spots
Additional cameras were introduced in areas that could not be adequately covered by the existing setup.
Better Coverage of Key Areas
Camera placement was planned around important monitoring points such as the entrance, cashier area and selected sections of the retail floor.
System Configuration & Testing
After installation, the system was configured and tested to make sure all cameras were recording and displaying the intended areas correctly.
IT WASN’T AS STRAIGHTFORWARD AS IT LOOKED
Because the store was already operating with an existing CCTV system, the project required more than simply replacing old cameras with new ones.
During Assessment
We had to identify which parts of the existing system were still suitable and which areas required improvement.
During Planning
Camera positions had to be adjusted based on the current layout of the store rather than the original installation.
During Installation
The work had to be carried out while minimising disruption to the client’s business operations.
During Testing
Each camera angle had to be reviewed to make sure the final setup provided useful coverage, not just a working video feed.
FROM PLANNING TO INSTALLATION
01 — Site Assessment
We reviewed the existing CCTV system, store layout and current camera coverage.
02 — Coverage Planning
We identified blind spots and key areas that required better monitoring.
03 — Camera Repositioning & Installation
Existing cameras were repositioned where suitable, while additional cameras were installed where needed.
04 — Configuration & Testing
The CCTV system was configured and tested to make sure each camera was recording the intended area properly.
05 — Handover
The client was guided through the updated system and final camera coverage.

THE RESULT
The upgraded CCTV system gave the client better visibility across important areas of the store and improved the overall usefulness of the existing security setup.
Improved Coverage
More of the store can now be monitored effectively.
Reduced Blind Spots
Areas with limited visibility were improved through better camera positioning and additional coverage.
Better Monitoring of Key Areas
Important areas such as entrances and transaction points now have more practical CCTV coverage.
More Efficient Use of Existing Equipment
Suitable parts of the existing system were retained instead of being replaced unnecessarily.

WHAT THIS PROJECT SHOWS
Upgrading a CCTV system does not always mean replacing everything.
Sometimes, the bigger issue is not the camera itself, but how the system is planned and positioned.
By reviewing the client’s existing setup first, Neera Technologies was able to focus the upgrade on the areas that actually needed improvement.
FACING A SIMILAR PROBLEM?
Already have CCTV installed, but still dealing with blind spots, poor camera angles or limited coverage?
Neera Technologies can assess your existing CCTV system and recommend practical improvements based on your actual premises and monitoring requirements.
